DMSO significantly reduced the clinical evidence of (rheumatoid) arthritis in rats with joint inflammation. This happened in a dose dependent manner. Rats treated with DMSO at 165mg/kg had reduced clinical severity but failed to significantly reduce paw swelling or inflammatory cell accumulation, however rats treated with 330mg/kg had significant reductions in all areas. Further to this DMSO effectively prevented joint injury in this study. Santos L. Attenuation of adjutant arthritis in rats by treatment with oxygen radical scavengers. Immunol Cell Biol. 1994 Oct;72(5):406-14. PMID:7835985.

DMSO was used as a carrier to deliver topical diclofenac solution to 248 people with primary osteoarthritis of the knee. Rapid onset of pain relief was observed during the first week of treatment and after four weeks we saw improvements of 42.9% in pain, 39.3% for physical function, 40.5% for stiffness and 44.4% for pain on walking. This randomized controlled trial has provided strong evidence for the efficacy and safety of this topical diclofenac solution.

We evaluated the existing evidence from six radomised controlled trials of DMSO and MSM in the treatment of osteoarthritis to determine their efficacy and safety. Two of the four DMSO trials and both MSM trials reported significant improvements in pain outcomes, however all four of the DMSO studies need to be viewed with caution because of poor methodology. Further studies are now required to identify both the optimum dosage and longer term safety of MSM and DMSO. Brien S. Systematic review of the nutritional supplements dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) in the treatment of osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis Cartilage. 2008 Apr 14. PMID:18417375.

Directions for Use:
Apply 4 to 6 sprays of 70% DMSO and 30% Aloe Vera morning and night to your torso or near any pain and rub in well. After application rub in a good quality moisturiser like "Natural Instinct" Natural Body Lotion to maintain skin condition. Preferably for a more effective treatment - Take 5ml (tsp) (3500mg) of 70% DMSO and 30% water in a glass of fresh juice or water every four to six hours.
