The below research and actual experience supports that DMSO inactivates the Herpes Viruses.

We have analyzed the effect of DMSO on several parameters of Herpes Simplex Virus replication. Results indicated that DMSO blocks productive infection by acting at multiple different points (mechanisms of action) with positive cooperativity. Our results show that DMSO can block HSV-1 productive infection.

DMSO at 80% concentration inactivated viruses tested by Chan and Gadenbusch. These viruses included four RNA viruses, influenza A virus, influenza A-2 virus, Newcastle disease virus, Semliki Forest virus, and DNA viruses. Chan JC. Virucidal properties of dimethyl sulfoxide. We report the inactivation of the Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV-1) by Oxygen.

DMSO "(CH3)2SO" has one Oxygen molecule attached to a sulphur molecule. After it gives off it's Oxygen, DMSO becomes Dimethyl Sulfide "(CH3)2S" which has the characteristic smell of garlic known to occur when using DMSO.
This clearly shows that DMSO delivers oxygen deep into tissues, and oxygen has been shown to inactivate viruses

Directions for Use:
Apply 70% DMSO and 30% Aloe Vera to herpes lesions as soon as the characteristic tingling occurs. Frequent applications should see the lesion receed and dissappear in 6 to 18 hours. Additionally - Take 5ml (tsp) (3500mg) of 70% DMSO and 30% water in a glass of fresh juice 3 or 4 times a day. We also recommend "Cellfood" in water.
