The below research and actual experience supports that DMSO inactivates the Herpes Viruses.

DMSO at 80% concentration inactivated viruses tested by Chan and Gadenbusch. DMSO "(CH₃)₂SO" has one Oxygen molecule attached to a sulphur molecule. After it gives off it's Oxygen, DMSO becomes Dimethyl Sulfide "(CH₃)₂S" which has the characteristic smell of garlic known to occur when using DMSO.
